The heel actually holds. I have spent years lacing around a gap that is not there in this shoe.
/ / Engineering
Grading a men's last down produces a shoe that is the right length and wrong everywhere else — the heel is too wide, the instep too high, and the collar sits on the ankle bone. Halfstep W is cut on its own last with the heel 4mm narrower at the widest point and the collar dropped 6mm. The midsole is foamed to a 45 Asker C rather than 48, a 6% reduction chosen because average loading rates across our wear-test panel were about 8% lower and a foam tuned for a heavier runner simply does not compress enough to work. Everything else — plate, outsole, knit — is identical to the unisex shoe.

Softer underfoot than the unisex pair I tried alongside it, which is exactly what the page claims.
