Vulcanised properly. You can see the tape overlap and it has not lifted in eight months of daily wear.
/ / Engineering
Vulcanising bonds the sole to the upper by curing the rubber in place under heat rather than gluing a finished unit on, which is slower, harder to fix if it goes wrong, and produces a joint that flexes with the shoe instead of peeling away from it. The foxing tape is applied by hand and the overlap is left visible at the lateral side, because hiding it means grinding the tape thinner and weakening the one seam most likely to fail. The upper pairs a 1.4mm pig suede at the wear points with a 12oz canvas everywhere else — canvas breathes and suede survives, and using one material for both means accepting the weakness of whichever you choose.

Heavy for a canvas shoe, which is the trade for the construction. Breaks in around week two.
